Born in New Orleans and growing up in Los angeles, Lawrence attended the University of Southern California on a basketball scholarship, where he graduated with a degree in Business and Accounting. He then worked as a CPA with Coopers and Lybrand before launching two successful businesses in manufacturing technology products and running a celebrity answering service. Looking for more challenge and the opportunity to help others, Lawrence entered the financial services industry with Prudential Insurance Company in 1989.

After years of success as an agent working with high profile athletes and entertainers, Lawrence was recruited into management by MetLife. He spent three years as the Sales Manager in the Glendale, CA office. During this time, Lawrence developed a relationship with the previous Managing Partner of New York Life's Los Angeles General Office, Wayne Bragg, CLU. "Wayne was not only a wonderful friend and mentor, but I am very thankful that he saw something in me to make it worthwhile for us to meet once a month, every month, for three years before I finally made the transition to New York Life."

Since joining the company in 2000, Lawrence has repeatedly qualified for Gathering of the Eagles, Top 25 Partner, and was the Top Partner for the Pacific Zone in 2005. His team of professionals consists of Life All Stars, Long Term Care Champions, case rate leaders, as well as agents working in the advanced planning and business markets. Over the years, Lawrence has brought hundreds of agents into the business, and views career coaching at New York Life as the most rewarding experience to date.

Lawrence is a firm advocate for giving back and enjoys being involved in organizations like the Brotherhood Crusade, Rainbow Push, Millennium Momentum Foundation and the USC Alumni Association. He continues to coach and sponsor basketball for underprivileged youth, and is also involved with Big Brothers Big sisters. Lawrence is a member of the Executive Association of Reno, NV.
